Methane production has been going now for 12 days and producing a reasonable amount of gas each day. The gas is flammable but I am finding I cannot sustain a flame without the candle keeping the gas lit.
This could be for two reasons. Either the jet and oxygen mix I am trying to ignite is not suitable or the gas contains too much carbon dioxide to sustain a flame. I am hoping to build a better burner setup to determine which it is soon……

Today I have just started working on my methane project. After reading a few articles, the one of particular interest being: http://www.green-trust.org/2000/biofuel/batesmethane.htm I have started building my first digester to produce methane. At this stage I just want to produce some methane and check that it explodes before going on to look at powering a vehicle. I am setting up a 5L plastic container which is going to be sealed and piped out to a collection vessel, in this case an upturned 2L coke bottle in a bucket of water! The methane will take a few days to get going. One trick to encourage gas production is to leave it in a warm cupboard by the Aga!
